The All New Wolverine
Summary

X-23 was created to be a weapon and for a time, that’s all she was. But with the help of her mentor, Logan- the original Wolverine- she escaped that dark past. Tragically, Logan has fallen, but Laura will continue in his footsteps as a hero.
Similarity
Possibly there is no need for this to be discussed. In comic, X-23 Laura is mentored by Logan. She is an assassin but becomes a feral animal based on a pheromone that drives her into that state. The key difference is that the pheromone sends her into a blind rage and Wolverine’s rage is not blind but he just sees red. Logan, the older Logan does mentor her and tries to teach her how to deal with the death and the killing. Also he does teach her that although she was created to do evil, she has the choice to become something more. This was seen in the movie. There were the talks about her killing people and Logan says he had killed people too. He also mentions how it is something you will have to deal with. Although Laura is older than the Laura in the movie, it was better in the movie because Laura seems like a defenseless child until she flips into Wolvey Beserker mode. In the movie, she flips out at a store clerk that she almost dispatches until she is caught by Logan and told her that it was wrong. As a journey to the North could represent her journey through life, Logan is there to protect and guide her until all the lessons he had shown her would come to her understanding. She would then not need the mentoring of Logan, but it is symbolized in the Eulogy that she is quoting from the movie Shane, a great parallel for this movie.
*** Shane: Enigmatic gunslinger Shane (Alan Ladd) rides into a small Wyoming town with hopes of quietly settling down as a farm hand. Taking a job on homesteader Joe Starrett’s (Van Heflin) farm, Shane is drawn into a battle between the townsfolk and ruthless cattle baron Rufus Ryker (Emile Meyer). Shane’s growing attraction to Starrett’s wife, Marian (Jean Arthur), and his fondness for their son Joey (Brandon de Wilde), who idolizes Shane, force Shane to realize that he must thwart Ryker’s plan.***
If you haven’t seen it. It is an awesome movie. As she quotes what Shane tells Joey, she ends it by calling Wolverine “papa.” Does she call him “papa” in the comic, it is unknown if she calls him that but the fondness is still there.
