A group of bullied kids band together when a shapeshifting demon, taking the appearance of a clown, begins hunting children.
I absolutely loved the original film and I tried not to compare Bill Skarsgård to Tim Curry. That is truly unfair. The great Tim Curry (Clue or Clue-do depending on where you are int he world, Rocky Horror Picture show, Legend with Tom Cruise) has worked his way into the hearts of movie goers and it is difficult to do better. Bill Skarsgård did bring his own brand of creepiness which was new-ish to the part. He seemed much more menacing. It seemed that he looked at the Tim Curry performance, took the best from it, tried not to imitate, and add some JWG to the mx (John Wayne Gacey). He really did not have to be that scary because the sets added to his creepiness.
In great respects to one of the most entertaining actors of all time, Tim Curry, and granted his version was made for tv, this movie is leaps and bounds as a whole above the move that traumatized us as children. It is creepy. It has just enough comic relief to relieve the tenacious tension built by the wonderful pacing of the movie. The jump scares are unpredictable and it is good old haunted house fun.
Overall: (5 / 5)
